Template:Infobox char Furlan Church (No Regrets) (ファーラン・チャーチ Fāran Chāchi?) is a character from Attack on Titan: No Regrets, and was one of Levi's companions prior to joining the Survey Corps, the other being Isabel Magnolia.

Appearance

Farlan was a young man with grey eyes and rather pale brown hair. His bangs hung over his forehead, between his eyes. Before he joined the Survey Corps, Farlan's civilian clothes featured a simple long-sleeve white shirt with knee-high boots.

Personality

Farlan, in contrast to Isabel, was very focused, and was able to make the distinction between when to have fun and when to be serious. Like Levi, Farlan was usually depicted as level-headed and calm, but disliked when things got out of control. He had a clear understanding of when he was defeated, and stopped resisting if he knew that he had lost. Farlan placed a lot of trust in Levi, and followed his decisions and leadership without question.[1]

Story

Prior to the fall of Wall Maria, Farlan was a delinquent roaming the capital's Underground District. At one point in time, Farlan decided to test Levi's strength by having him fight a group of thugs. Farlan's plan was to see if Levi was worth recruiting into his group of thugs or not, but was surprised to see Levi beat them all singlehandedly. He then decides to join Levi (though it is unknown how he convinced Levi as he neglects to tell Isabel the rest of his story).

Alongside his companions, Levi and Isabel, they were notorious for having a strong reputation (due to Levi's strength).[2] Having somehow obtained and learned how to use 3DMG, Farlan eventually finds himself and his companions captured by Erwin Smith of the Survey Corps.[1] After Levi is blackmailed into joining the Corps, Farlan and Isabel choose to follow him, all three resolve to one day claw their way into a better life.[3]

On his first expedition outside the walls, Farlan assisted Levi in taking down a Titan. While obviously nervous and unsettled at the thought of fighting a Titan, he gained his courage and morale upon seeing Levi charge into battle.

The next day of the expedition, due to heavy rain, Levi takes the chance to hunt down Erwin, using the rain to his advantage. Farlan advises caution but Levi brushes him off. Despite Farlan's talks, Levi forces the conversation to a close and sets of to kill Erwin.

After Levi leaves to find Erwin, five Titans attack the squad Isabel and Farlan are part of with most of them being killed or devoured. Levi returns to find the Titans attacking the squad with Isabel and Farlan trying to avoid the battle, but as they flee, Farlan's horse falls along with Farlan due to tripping in the mud. Farlan continues to run away on foot while Isabel uses her 3DMG to distract the Titans and manages to avoid their grips. However, as one gets a clear view of her, it trips and crashes into the Titan she had attached her 3DMG hooks into. As the Titans fall, Isabel calls out to Levi for help, before being crushed in between both Titans. Her death causes Farlan to turn around and confront the Titans but he realizes that his fall had badly damaged his equipment. Upon seeing Levi, Farlan waves to him like he used to in the underground streets in a farewell gesture and mouths 'See you later.'. He is then grabbed and devoured by a Titan. Afterwards, Levi wiped out all the Titans in a rage and extracted Farlan from the Titan that consumed him. However, by this time, Farlan's body had been ravaged and he was already dead.

Witnessing the deaths of the two first true friends he ever had, Levi goes into blind rage and kills the Titans. Upon confronting Erwin in an attempt to kill him, Levi blames Erwin for their deaths. But further conversation with Erwin has Levi realizes that it was his pride that had blinded him and he was the real reason for Farlan's death. However, Erwin refutes this stating that the real reason for their deaths were the Titans and the lack of knowledge that the humans had on them.
